Nowadays, I mostly see it in the same sentence with the word “overrated”, with seemingly everyone being sure that everyone else but them is mindlessly worshipping it. Back then, on all the anime sites that I frequented, popular consensus treated it as an unquestionable classic, a masterpiece that every anime fan who finds the romance genre even vaguely appealing, should see. lol) voice actors from the anime, but I feel it obviously didn't pull it through enough.Ĭan't mask up a pile of shit with nostalgia-inducing music. It’s been over two years since I first saw Clannad. I feel they tried to give it some merit by bringing over some of the same opening music from the VN, and all (but one. The reason I compared the Anime and the Movie together is because they are both products of a (video formatted) interpretation of the VN (and manga), which is interesting because the movie was god awful in my opinion. Yeah, as I stated above the movie was made by Toei Animation and the anime was made by Kyoto Animation. Got 20 minutes in and deleted it off my PC, just wasnt for me i guess.

Music is actually a huge part of these drama animes too, I probably should have wrote a little about itįor those that want to watch it in english.Īnd They're both based on the VN, so like, the movie isnt based on the series or anything.Īs for my personal opinion, i absolutely hated the movie. Oh I agree, they only kept the intro song I think. My biggest problem with the movies? The music! It just doesn't compare to the VN/Anime at all. Also, what would it matter if it was being produced alongside ( I assume) afterstory? It was made by a different studio, right? ( Toei animation) That would not conflict with the workings of Kyoto animation? I agree to the comment about the parallel world, I found it to be more interesting than the dream subplot, but they were both great. There was just too much going on to show in 2 hours. You mentioned the dream was an interesting part and I agree, but it was not anything even similar to the real illusionary world expressed in the vn/show. The movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The movie got shut out because it was in development at the same time the series was. Sorry if I'm repeating myself but I still see what you mean, I probably should not have had as high expectations for it as I did. In the movie) there were characters that were her best friends apparently that weren't even shown in the movie at all. Yeah I know what you mean but I still feel that by doing that they shouldn't confuse new viewers, like the Nagisa graduation ceremony scene (which I'm pretty sure was I tried showing the series to my friend but he didn't watch more than a few episodes because he was bored with the backstory, so instead I showed him the movie, and he understood it fine. I thought it did a good job of portraying something similar to the main storyline well for the short space of time.

Characters's personalities had to be compromised to fit time constraints, the story had to be changed around somewhat. I think the problem you're having is you're trying to compare it to the series too much - The series had over 16 hours to tell the whole story, that much time doesn't nearly exist in the space of a movie, so of course they were forced to change many things. Yep, just watch it without expecting much IMO.
